50 Minute Timer

This timer draws 50 minutes as 20 concentric rings; one empties every 2.5 minutes, so a glance shows how far along you are without reading a digit. It chimes at zero, keeps counting in a background tab, runs fullscreen, and exports as a free MP4 video. Handy for a university lecture, a therapy session, or baking banana bread.

Fifty minutes

Fifty minutes is the lecture hour, the therapy hour, and the long pomodoro. It is what "an hour" means in most of the institutions that schedule one, because the missing ten minutes is how people get from one room to the next. Each ring on the dial is two and a half minutes; every second ring is five minutes, so the face reads as ten five-minute marks.

The fifty-minute hour

University lectures run fifty minutes so that a class timetabled at ten can end and one timetabled at eleven can begin with the corridor in between. Therapy sessions use the same length for the same reason, with the last ten minutes of the hour reserved for notes. If you teach, present, or run sessions, this dial fullscreen on a second screen is the clock the room can share without anyone hearing it tick.

Study, one block

The study page is this same fifty minutes aimed at homework and revision. The 50/10 pomodoro page is the cycling version: fifty on, ten off, four rounds, with the breaks starting on their own. Use this plain dial for a single block with no break attached, or when the break will be lunch.

Banana bread

A loaf of banana bread bakes in fifty to sixty minutes in a moderate oven, and fifty is the first check for a standard tin. Start the dial as the loaf goes in and skewer the centre at the chime. If it comes out wet, tent the top with foil and give it ten more minutes on the 10 minute dial so the crust does not darken.

Two twenty-fives

Fifty is two pomodoros back to back with no break, switching at ring ten. It is also five ten-minute pieces, switching every fourth ring, and ten fives, switching every second. The 25 minute dial restarted once gives a chime at the switch.

When fifty is not the number

A school period is 45 minutes; a full hour with the corridor time back in is the 1 hour dial. The card includes a fifty-minute video for anyone who prefers to watch the count as a clip, and the whole range is listed on the timers page.

How long is each ring?

2.5 minutes. The dial always has 20 rings, and this timer runs 50 minutes.

Is there a shorter or longer version?

Yes. The nearest pages are the 45 minute timer and the 1 hour timer, and the custom field on any dial takes an exact length.
